Wat Traimit is one of the oldest temples in Chinatown area. It is the only Thai temple in the Chinese community that is dedicated to people who practice Buddhism. Thai people believe paying respect to the Buddha gives them an auspicious life.
The highlight of the temple which was founded by three wealthy Chinese merchants is the gold Buddha image made of pure gold weighing 5.5 tons. The gold image was hidden beneath a stucco exterior. Some part of it cracked open when it was accidentally dropped from a crane during relocation and the gold was seen.
The temple holds the Guinness record for the largest solid gold statue in the World.
